Gayle Sims

Writing a book for the first time has been both an exciting and deeply personal journey. I have always loved reading—getting lost in someone else’s imagination felt like stepping into another world. As a child, I was the one who thrived on book fairs, eagerly counting the days until I could see the new stories waiting to be discovered. The first book that truly made an impact on me was The Wizard of Oz. It opened my eyes to the magic and power of words—to how they can transport, transform, and stay with you long after the last page has turned.

I didn’t begin writing until much later in life. As an adult, I decided to take a creative writing class at my local community college simply because I wanted to rekindle my love of stories, and to my delight, I found that I loved creating them as much as reading them. Even then, though, it took me thirty years to finally begin writing this book. There was always a feeling that a story was waiting inside me, but for one reason or another, I couldn’t find the right moment to begin. Then one day, I made the decision—no more waiting, no more excuses—it was time to write.

This book is the result of that decision, of finally giving myself permission to tell the story that’s been growing in my imagination for so long. It has been an incredible experience—sometimes challenging, often rewarding, and always fulfilling. I hope that as you read this book, you feel even a fraction of the joy I’ve found in creating it. Thank you for taking this journey with me; it means more than words can express.
